Pray for Albania | 3 Million People Who Need Jesus
Albania is a small country in the Balkans, with a population of just over 2.8 million people. The land has been contested and conquered many times throughout history. The Macedonians, Romans, Ottomans, Italians, and Communist have all had a part in controlling Albania.
In spite of this (or perhaps because of it), the people of Albania have become very exceptionally accommodating to strangers and friends alike. They might spend a months salary on one meal for a guest. They also practice the “Kanun” which focuses on honour, hospitality, right conduct, and family loyalty. Hospitality is seen even in the fact that Mother Teresa was a native Albanian before devoting her life to charity in India.
Despite their kind and accommodating attitude towards strangers, friends, and family, the Albanians have a deep spiritual need. Their religious history has dragged them through Roman Catholicism, Greek Orthodoxy, Islam, Communism, and now Islam again. They now have no official religion, but nearly 60% of the population are Muslim. Thankfully, there is an open door in Albania for missionaries to go share the gospel. Please pray that God would send more laborers into this field!
