Making Dry Bones Live
Ezekiel 37:3 “And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.”
The Lord takes Ezekiel out to a valley full of many bones that are very dry. The Lord asks Ezekiel if the bones can live. Ezekiel wisely answers, “O Lord, You know.” God tells Ezekiel to prophesy upon the bones. This is what he says:
O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in your, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
As he finishes speaking, there is a great noise and just as God has said the bones turn into bodies. Then, God tells him to prophesy that the wind will come and put breath into the bones and make them alive. Again, the prophesy is fulfilled and the bodies are made alive into an exceeding great army.
As we think of the amazing miracle that God did, there are several things we can learn:
- What may look like a valley full of death to us may be an opportunity for incredible miracles to God.
- In desperate times, our focus must remain on God and His power not on us and the lifelessness around us.
- Only God can give life to a soul, to a church, to a plan, and to our efforts. All is vain unless the spirit of the Holy One comes down.
- More than a great idea and hard work, we need the power of the Spirit of God to fill us and to take our feeble, crumbling efforts and turn them into a mighty work of God.
We serve a great God who can make dry bones live. Let us look to Him for power, hope, and victory today!
