A Fresh Vision of God at Each New Phase of Life
Genesis 46:2–3 2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. 3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:
At every new phase of Jacob’s life, God was there with him. He appeared to him when he was headed to Padan-aram to choose a wife (Genesis 28). He appeared to him when he was leaving Padan-aram to return to Canaan (Genesis 31). The angels of God met him on the way to meet his brother and then God himself wrestled with and blessed Jacob (Genesis 32). God appeared to him in Genesis 35 after the incident at Shechem and told him to return to Bethel. At Bethel, God reaffirmed his covenant with him.
Now God once again appears to Jacob on the way to Egypt. God tells him the following things: “1) I am God; 2) I am the God of your father; 3) You do not need to be afraid to go down to Egypt; 4) I will make you a great nation there; 5) I will take you down there, but I will lead you out as well; 6) You will see Joseph.”
What a blessing that God is faithful and continues to reveal Himself to us in the Word each day. Each day and specifically at each new phase of life, we need a fresh revelation of who God is, what He has and is doing, and what our mission in life is.
