A Throne Was Set in Heaven – Revelation 3
‘And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.’ — Revelation 4:2
As John is taken up in the spirit to heaven to see things which must be hereafter, he first sees a throne set in heaven with one sitting on the throne.
This is the throne room of God. Focus is immediately on the beauty of the one on the throne (v.3). Then, John notices that around the throne are 24 elders dressed in white with crowns on their heads (v.4).
Also, powerful lightnings, thunderings, and voices come out of the throne and the seven Spirits of God are before the throne (v.5). A sea of glass is before the throne and in the midst and around the throne are four beats with eyes all around (v.6).
These beasts have the appearance of a lion, a calf, a man, and an eagle (v.7). They each have six wings, are full of eyes, rest not, and say Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come (v.8).
As these beasts give God glory, the 24 elders fall down and worship the one on the throne, giving Him glory, honour, and power (v.9-11).
This scene is one that is awesome, powerful, riveting, and transcendent. It is a heavenly reality that makes the earth seem dim and fleeting.
Regardless of the circumstances of our lives, of the chaos happening on earth, and the challenges we face, there is One on the throne who sees all, knows all, and can do all things. In His presence, there is peace, worship, and holiness. May the reality of God on the throne calm our hearts, knowing that He knows all, He commands all, and He can do all.
