As He Sowed – Luke 8
“A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.” — Luke 8:5
As the sower went out to sow, his seed fell on different types of ground. Sometimes the seed was snatched away immediately and nothing happened. Sometimes, it brought a bit of initial growth but then died out after difficulty. Sometimes, it started to grow but was choked by cares, riches, and pleasures of this life. And other times, it brought forth lots of growth and fruit.
This is the way the ministry of the Lord Jesus was. Not every one that heard believed or grew spiritually. Actually many produced nothing or very little. And then some people, like his disciples, were very fruitful.
We should realise that our ministry and our efforts to sow the seed will be similar. Some people will hear the word we preach and nothing will happen. Some people will show initial interest and then turn away because it’s too hard. Others will show more interest and even appear to be real believers but then this world and its pleasures will choke out the Word.
But some will listen, believe, and have hearts that produce lots of fruit that will bring honour and glory to God!
It is helpful to know that this is what Jesus said will happen. It is what did happen to Jesus. And it will be what happens when we go forth to sow. The fact that many don’t listen doesn’t mean we have failed; it is just the law of the sower.
Choose to focus on the good ground and keep on sowing gospel seed everywhere. Who knows who might be that good ground that brings forth much fruit!
