Blessings of the New Covenant – Hebrews 8
‘For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:’ — Hebrews 8:10
In Jeremiah 31:31-34, God promised that He would make a new covenant with the nation of Israel. This covenant was with Israel and promised many blessings to them. Many of the blessings of this covenant also benefit the church today which is made up of Jews and Gentiles. Notice some of the blessings that come through the work of Christ who instituted a better covenant:
- God’s law is in our minds and written on our hearts.
- God is our God, and we are His people.
- We know the Lord.
- God is merciful to our unrighteousness.
- Our sins and iniquities are remembered no more.
Because of Christ, all these things are ours. His shed blood ratified the new covenant and brings promised blessings to Israel and through Israel to the whole world. If we believe on Christ, then:
- We have the Holy Spirit in us reminding us of God’s law.
- We have a close father-son relationship with God.
- We know the Lord.
- We are forgiven and our sins are remembered no more.
