Compassionate to the End – John 19
“When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!” — John 19:26
Terrible things were happening to Jesus. He was being falsely accused, lied about, tortured, and killed. He had just been betrayed, abandoned, and denied by those who were closest to Him. Yet, He is compassionate to the end.
While on the cross, suffering, struggling to breathe, He cares for His mother, telling her to view John as her new son. Also, in the garden, when they came to take Him, Jesus requested that His disciples be allowed to leave. (John 18:8 “if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way.”)
These statements and others Jesus uttered in His final hours show such depths of love and compassion that go beyond our comprehension. Any single situation Jesus faced would make most men angry and unable to focus on much but the pain, but He remained loving and caring for those around Him.
O, what a Saviour! Once again, the love of God is marvelous and amazing. Thank You, Father, for giving Your Son to die for us. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for loving us and dying for us. We praise and magnify You!
