Don’t Defile Yourself (Leviticus 21)
Leviticus 21:1 1 And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:
Special instructions are given in Leviticus 21 for the Levitical priests so that they would not defile themselves or the tabernacle. There are guidelines about the dead, about funerals, about who they married, and about physical limitations.
The lesson for us is that as God’s priests, we need to realise God places a very high value on our role in the world. We represent Him. We help people get right with God. We share the truth of God’s Word, and we don’t want to do anything that might pollute our message.
May God help us to live out the purity He has worked into us. May we keep our minds, our hearts, our families, and our lives free from spiritual defilement, so we can glorify the Lord and represent Him well in this world.
