Enjoy the Journey (Genesis 47)
Genesis 47:9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage
Jacob did not have a perfect journey. He made some mistakes along the way, but God was good to him. Yet, seventeen years before his death he can only say, “few and evil have the days of the years of my life been…”
He does not seem to see the good in what God had done. His only focus was on how bad his life had been. He seemed filled with bitterness and regret.
The lesson for us from this statement is: “Enjoy the journey!” There will be difficulties, regrets, and mistakes. But enjoy God’s grace at work in your life each and every day.
Look to the Lord. Don’t focus on past failures or past successes. Focus on the good things God does and the wonder of knowing Him. Even if your life is filled with pain and problem, there is great joy in knowing Him.
Habakkuk 3:17-18 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive shall fail, nd the fields shall yield no meat; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
