Fulfil Your Ministry – Colossians 4
‘And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.’ — Colossians 4:17
One of the themes of Colossians is ‘completion’ or perfection and maturity in Christ. Colossians 2:10 says that we are complete in Christ. In Colossians 4:12, Paul said that one of their own, Epaphras, was a fervently praying for them to be perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Throughout the book of Colossians, various aspects of Christian maturity are discussed. Now at the end of the letter, we find another area of Christian maturity – ministry. A man named Archippus was told to make sure that he fulfils the ministry he had received from the Lord.
What ministry have you received from the Lord? If you are saved, you have the Spirit and you have been gifted for ministry. Each of us should be looking to the Lord for direction and asking the Lord to give us a way to serve the Lord in and through our local church. This ministry should be a high priority for us. We should see it as a gift from the Lord.
Are we fulfilling the ministry the Lord has given us? Once we know the ministry the Lord wants us to do, we need to fulfil it. We need to act based on the grace of God at work in our lives. We need to use our gifts for the glory of God and the building up of the body of Christ.
