No Exceptions – Jer 25
“For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the Lord of hosts.”
Jeremiah 25:29
Favortism is something we don’t like unless we are the beneficiaries. We desire fairness when it comes to others, but then claim to be the exception.
When it comes to spiritual things, God is a fair and a just God. He offers grace and forgiveness to all who repent. He punishes all who don’t. We see this clearly in Jeremiah 25.
For ten years, Jeremiah warned God’s people to repent (v.3). They would not listen, so God promised to bring great judgment on them and their land (v.8-11).
Not only did God promise to judge Israel, but He also gave out promises of destruction on all other nations who rebelled against Him (v.18-28).
God told them that if He was willing to judge the people and the city where He chose to put His name – Jerusalem – then surely He would judge all other nations as well (v.29).
We need to stop thinking that we are the exception to God’s laws. Of course, He is gracious and merciful, but only to those who repent and believe. All must come to Him the same way – in humble faith.
Those who don’t will be destroyed. All inhabitants of the earth will one day stand before God and face His judgment (v.29).
Don’t think You will be the exception. Receive God’s only provision of salvation found in the Lord Jesus Christ.
