Only Two Paths – Matt 7
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” — Matthew 7:13–14
There are many different religions, faiths, beliefs, and worldviews, but, according to Jesus, all but one belief system is part of one broad road that leads to destruction (v.13-14).
Jesus makes it clear that there are many “false prophets” who are seen to be false by their fruits (v.15-20). Also, He teaches that not everyone who calls Him Lord has truly submitted themselves to His will and will enter His kingdom (v.21-23).
Then Jesus ends His sermon by letting them know that those who hear His sayings and do them will last like a house on a rock, but those who don’t will fall like a house on the sand (v.24-29).
So the key to whether you fall or stand, whether you enter the kingdom or are rejected, and whether you are on the path to life or destruction comes down to what you do with Jesus. If you listen to Him and respond to Him in faith which produces obedience, then you will be saved. If you trust in anything or anyone else, you will fall.
Let make sure we are on the right path, have entered the right gate, are following the right person, and are listening to the right sayings. Our eternal destiny is at stake!
