Out of the Belly of Hell – Jonah 2
Just before passing away in Ravensbrück concentration camp, Corrie Ten Boom’s sister, Betsie said, “There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.” Somehow, in the darkness of that place, God’s love shone through. The same was true for Jonah.
He had run from God. He had wished for death. He had plunged to the depths of the sea. But there in the “belly of hell” he cried out to the Lord…and the Lord heard his voice! When he was about to perish, he remembered the Lord and prayed. Immediately his prayer came into God’s holy temple and immediately God’s provision of deliverance (the whale) rescued him, brining him to dry land!
I can’t imagine how horrible that concentration camp was or how scary Jonah’s plunge into the sea was or even everything you are going through, but what I do know is that God can hear those who cry out of the belly of hell and He can rescue them. Salvation is of the Lord. Look to Him. You may be deep in your sin. Look to the Lord. You may be suffering great trials. Look to the Lord. He can and will hear you.
“And said,I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me;Out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.” – Jonah 2:2
