Peace in the Storm – Acts 27
“And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.” — Acts 27:22–26
Acts 27 details Paul’s perilous journey from Caesarea to Rome. This incredible journey involved tragic destruction and miraculous protection. Throughout the difficult journey, the testimony of Paul shone brighter and brighter to all the despairing passengers aboard the doomed vessel.
I can’t help but see an illustration of the hope that God gives and the testimony God wants us to have in this lost world. All around us is chaos, confusion, and despair. Yet, we who know the Lord can be at peace. We can give hope of deliverance to those around us. We know that God loves the whole world and gave His Son Jesus to rescue the world. All who trust in Him will be spared.
May we who know the Lord trust the Lord in the storms of this life. May we show forth peace and joy that passes understanding. May we pass on the good news of God’s salvation and deliverance to a world that needs hope. May we shine the light of the gospel like Paul did on that fateful voyage.
