Ready to Die for Jesus – Acts 21
“Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” — Acts 21:13
Paul’s friends were very concerned for him. A prophet named Agabus had just confirmed what Paul himself suspected – that when Paul got to Jerusalem, he would be bound and delivered to the Gentiles. When Paul’s friends heard this, they all tried to dissuade him from going to Jerusalem.
Though their tears and warnings were heart-breaking for Paul to hear, he was unmoved by their somber warnings. Paul said he was ready to not only be bound but to die for the name of the Lord Jesus.
The resolute commitment of Paul expresses the kind of heart that every follower of Jesus should have – sold out, ready to suffer, ready to die, ready to do anything for the name of the Lord Jesus! He is our Saviour and Lord, and He is worthy of our all. Never should there be any thought of self-preservation or personal comfort. Instead, total surrender to the Lord!
