The Bridegroom Is Coming – Song 3

Song of Solomon chapter 3 begins with the beloved woman seeking her lover (v.1-5). She goes out into the streets and asks around for him. She keeps going until she finds him and brings him home to be with her. Some think that this is a dream that she has, dreaming of losing her lover and then finding him.

The chapter ends with the bridegroom king coming to take his bride home (v.6-11). After their waiting and patience (v.5), now the time has come for them to be together and husband and wife. He has put great preparation into everything. From perfumes to providing soldiers to protect them on the journey back home, from a beautiful chariot to a crown of joy and gladness, all is ready.

As we read this love story, I can’t help but think of the love Christ has for us and the love we should have for Him. He woos us and wins us, and as a result we should seek Him, for He will be found. And He is working to prepare a place for us to come and receive us to Himself (John 14:1-3). The church is called His bride and one day we will be with Him forever. This brings Him great joy and it should bring us great joy as well.

• Do we desire to spend time with Him?
• Are we looking forward to His return?
