The Lion of the Tribe of Judah Hath Prevailed – Revelation 5
‘And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.’ — Revelation 5:5
The awesome throne room scene of Revelation 4 is a build-up to Revelation 5 where a book is seen in the hand of God the Father on the throne. An angel asks who is worthy to open the book and loose the seals. This book and its seals will be progressively unrolled throughout the book of Revelation as God’s program of judgment is carried out.
As John observes that no one is worthy to open the book, he is very upset and wept much. But then, one of the elders tells him to not weep because the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book. When he looks, he sees the Lion is a Lamb that has been slain having seven horse and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God. This Lion/Lamb takes the book and everyone begins to worship and to sing praises to Him.
As we observe waves of worship and praise sweeping over Christ, we should recognise that Christ is worthy. Christ is the One that will bring all things to a conclusion, that will establish God’s kingdom on earth, that will cast down all enemies, and that will be worshipped by all creatures in heaven, earth, under the earth, and in the sea. May we give Him the worship He deserves today!
