The Lord Working With Them – Mark 16
“And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” — Mark 16:20
After His resurrection and ascension, Jesus sat on the right hand of God (v.19). In one sense, His work on earth was finished. He came and did all that the Father wanted Him to do. But in another sense, it is still going on, as He works with and through His empowered disciples.
In Mark 16:20, we read several great things:
- “They went forth” – The disciples heard the commission to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” and they obeyed. May God help us to go forth into all the world with the gospel. It is not enough to send. It is not enough to go locally. We must do all that we can to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
- “And preached every where” – When they went, their main responsibility was the preaching of the word. Later on in the verse, we read that “the word” was confirmed. Our main role in this world is the preaching of the Word of God. We must refrain from getting wrapped up in other social, political, and moral causes that may be good but not best.
- “The Lord working with them” – As they went, the Lord worked. As they preached, the Lord confirmed the word with miraculous signs. They were not alone. The was with them until the end of the world. And He is with us as we preach and as we go. He will work with us and confirm His Word through us.
May God help us to obey the command, to go forth, to preach the Word, and to trust the Lord to work with us and confirm the Word with power!
