The Peace Offering (Leviticus 3)
Leviticus 3:1 1 And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord.
The peace offering symbolises the results of being accepted by God through the burnt offering, meat offering, and drink offering (Lev 1-2). Christ on the cross made atonement for us, and a result we have peace with God. This offering was followed by a joyful meal (Lev 7:15) celebrating the peace and fellowship the believer has with God. This reminds us of several New Testament verses:
- Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
- 1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
- Ephesians 2:14 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
All who have believed on Christ and His sacrifice on the cross should rejoice that they are at peace with God, that they have sweet fellowship with God, and that they can enjoy communion with God!
