The Tabernacle of God is With Men – Revelation 21
‘And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.’ — Revelation 21:3
Revelation 21-22 tells us about the eternal state, which focuses primarily on the New Jerusalem, a beautiful and holy city. There are many amazing things about this city including:
- The absence of all tears, death, sorrow, and pain.
- The absence of all unbelieving sinners.
- Its dazzling beauty and wealth.
- The absence of any temple, sun, moon, or light because the Lamb is the light of it.
But the most amazing thing about this city is the fact that it is the place where God is with men. Revelation 21:3 says that “[God] will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God!”
The New Jerusalem is the ultimate goal that God has desired from the beginning, that He would dwell with us and that we would dwell with Him. He created us to honour and to please and to worship Him.
As those created in His image with free will, we can choose to rebel but we can also choose to submit. Our wilful worship is something that brings Him great pleasure. And of our course, our presence and dwelling with God is something that will bring us the greatest pleasure as well.
What a joy and blessing to have a taste of heaven now – God dwells with us by His Spirit! And what a joy it is to look forward to what God will do in the future when He brings us into this city to dwell with us for all eternity!
