Where Have the Heroes Gone? – Eze 19
All of us love a good hero story. We like the idea of a strong person who is able to prevail against all odds. For ancient peoples, the individuals they looked to most were their kings.
Ezekiel 19 is a lament, a funeral song, bemoaning the lack of kings (described as “lion”) for Israel. Though many great kings had come up, the most recent kings (ruling in the years just before Jerusalem fell to Babylon) were not very heroic. They all fell and soon there would be no king to rule.
Of course, one day, Jesus Christ, the son of David, will return and will rule and reign over the whole earth. And He is the One upon which all our hopes should be placed. He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He will roar and establish His eternal reign.
Your life may have fallen apart and there may be no hero to save the day. Look to Jesus. He is the great Deliverer and King. Look to Him for help, for hope, and for salvation. He is well able to save to the uttermost.
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” — Hebrews 7:25
