Without the Lord’s Help, It’s All In Vain – Ps 127
House-building, city-keeping and bread-winning are all pointless (vain) unless we have the Lord’s help. That’s what God says. And what an important truth for us! Everything in our families, our jobs, our churches and our communities, that we strive so hard to build and to do, is pointless unless we have the Lord’s help. All the effort, the expense, the sleepless nights, the early mornings, are all in vain unless the Lord gets involved.
If He does bless our efforts, then wonderful things will happen. In the home, the family may have children who grow and become a blessing to the entire family. Those children will go on to be like arrows defending the family, bringing happiness, blessing, and joy.
May this Psalm remind us how much we need the Lord. May we put the Lord and His kingdom first in our lives. May we not work, study, build and spend without considering the Lord, without seeking the Lord, and without putting Him first in our lives. We cannot afford to do anything without Him. As Jesus said in John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
