New Pastor for Northwest Baptist Church – James Wilson
Yesterday was a very significant day in the history of Northwest Baptist Church. The church is just over 5 years old. Up to this point, the only pastors of the church have been American church-planters. Yesterday, the church voted unanimously to elect James Wilson as the new pastor of the church.
James is a local man from Derry/Londonderry. He was born in Co. Donegal and grew up in Corby, England, but he has lived here in the city since 2004. He was saved at the age of 13. As an older teenager, James drifted away from the Lord and from faithful church attendance, but he always knew that God was at work in his life.
On the first Sunday of 2011, James came to a service at our church when we were meeting at our Fountain Street location. Ever since then, he has been a real servant helping out in any way he could – with the media ministry, the children and youth ministries, with the radio ministry, and with outreach and discipleship.
Since the beginning of the year, James has been preaching every week. It is obvious that God’s hand is upon his life. He has proven himself in the ministry. He has been through three years of Bible institute training and personal mentoring with myself and Sam Quinn. He is a man of great character and meets the Biblical requirements set out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. The church trusts him and has great confidence in his leadership. He has a great vision and heart for the lost.
The church is very excited about James becoming the next pastor. Sam and I could not pass the baton on to a better man. I am truly excited about how God is going to use James, and I hope that you will please pray for him as he takes this step of faith.
On August 11, we will have special service to license James to preach and to install him as pastor of the church. He will officially become pastor of the church as of Sunday, September 1, 2013.
